Match Report: Five Minutes of Fun

As the night got darker on Friday night at Kaukajärvi, I kept imagining what it would be like if we had had promotion on the line in this match. Of course playing such a match at Kaukajärvi would have been kind of a let down, but if we had had 200 people in there coupled with such high stakes on the field, the night would have been quite incredible. As it was, just over 60 people watched a lackluster match and a 1-2 win for the boys in blue. All goals were scored within five minutes in the first half, and considering that HST desperately needed the points to avoid relegation, the rest of the match was surprisingly unspirited from both teams.

Mika Kytöviita scored both of our goals, and took a firm hold on the top spot in our internal top goalscorer race. He now has 11 goals in competitive matches, six of which are in the last three matches that he has played. The 1-1 equalizer was maybe the most beautiful set piece goal we have had this season: a powerful shot into the top left corner from the penalty arc. Just two minutes later he got the ball for free from a HST defender who tried to pass the ball to the goalie, and ran away for an easy goal.

Frankly, it was difficult to get into the match during the following 65 minutes of play with no goals. The result did not matter, and our victory did not seem to be in much danger anyway. Both teams had a few chances for additional goals, but nothing too exciting. The fact that there were no bookings in this match is a stat that describes the match pretty accurately.

Next weekend in Pyynikki will hopefully be quite different as we have the final match of our Vitonen campaign. The match has been billed as a celebration of the promotion, and it is also going to be the last match for Mika Suonsyrjä as a player. Those are two good reasons to be there, and of course there will be sausages and beverages on offer as well. That is Saturday September 28 with a 4 pm kickoff at Pyynikki.
