Match Preview: Time to Rebuild Our Fortress

A sobering fact: we have not won a match at Pyynikki during the last two months. Okay, we haven’t played there but twice since we beat TP-49 3-0 on June 1st, but that is two winless matches too many. The fortress that we built early on in the season with four wins and one tie with a 12-1 goal differential has taken a couple blows, and getting promoted this season requires fixing that. The rebuilding process needs to start today as we face VaKP at 4 pm. We need everybody to be there to help.

Our starting lineup today looks to be very similar to what we had on Thursday against NePa. Jan Riikonen returns and will surely start, so that means that somebody will have to be dropped onto the bench. In my mind the options are to move Andrea Milanti to the middle and drop Jacin Dakkaki, or to drop Risto Niskanen from the wing. Both of these players have been playing very well recently, but both have also been very effective off the bench earlier this season. It feels good to have at least two good options – not something we have had a lot recently.

The new signing Tuomas Savinainen will be in the lineup again, and I’m very curious to see what he can bring this time. Frankly, I was in an emotional state of mind on Thursday when he came on for the last twenty minutes, and I wasn’t very analytical at that point. I hope that the fact I do not remember much from him falls more on me than him. Either way, it was Savinainen’s first match this season, and we have to give him time.

Put simply, we have to win this one to keep promotion in our own hands. Ilves 2 plays today too, but even though they are away at one of the better teams TP-49, I would be quite surprised if they dropped points. Their match starts an hour before ours does, and I think there might even be a live stream for it. I have no factual information about today, but they have had streams before. Check this channel at 3 pm to find out whats going on.

If you cannot make it to Pyynikki for the match, you can watch our match live at tamu-k.com/live. I hear that the club is using a different mobile data connection than before, so fingers crossed that everything works as it should. Indeed, that sentiment applies to the play on the field as well. The 4 pm kickoff time translates to 6 am for those of you who are on the US west coast.
