Today our away matches continue, this time with three points on the line against Janakkalan Pallo (JanPa). The match will be played in Turenki,

the largest population center in the municipality of Janakkala and essentially a suburb of the city of Hämeenlinna. Confused? I think you are not alone.

For the supporters it is great to get on the road again. For those that decided to go that is. For the team this is yet another challenge, as the normal match day routine is broken by the one hour ride to Turenki. This time the players will be traveling separately by cars. I’m not sure if that is in any way significant, but it could be. Last time they did that for the match in Vesilahti, and it was a very difficult one.

The injury problems that have been plaguing the team still continue. Juha Kumara appears to be coming back, but Ahmed Lakra (knee), Kemal Dedic (knee), Anssi Saiha (back), Antti Eijamo (back), and Otto Kurjanen (ankle) are all out. In addition, Vesa Suonsyrjä is questionable (thigh) and Timo Kauppinen is serving his second suspension for the red card he took in the match against HST last weekend. On the plus side, Alaa Adeeb looks to be back and in fact seems like a likely starter due to multiple absences in the back line.

After the JanPa match we will have a break from matches for almost two weeks, and then we play another away match in Lammi. These are the two longest away trips of our Vitonen season (90 km / 55 miles / one hour), and in my mind these were always going to be a big test for our team. Now that we have won all our matches, getting through these two without dropping points would be a tremendous boost to our promotion goal.

The match will be played on real grass, which could have been a factor for us, but due to our success in the Regions’ Cup we already have a couple matches on real grass under our belt. The team has also been training on real grass for a few weeks now. It should be a great match, as JanPa is one of the top teams in our division, and like us, are looking for a second straight promotion. They are nine points behind us already, but the second place on the table and a berth in the promotion playoffs is within their reach.

The match starts in Turenki at the Liinalammi field at 3 pm. It is not a long trip from Tampere at all for anybody who might decide to take the trip on short notice. Definitely recommended!
