Match Preview: The First Match That We Do Not Have to Win
As I’m sure everybody knows, the last match of the regular season against Ikurin Vire has been rendered competitively meaningless. TamU-K will go to promotion playoffs regardless of the result, and Vire will be stuck at the painful third position that gets them nowhere. It is indeed a weird feeling going into this match. We have had our back against the wall the whole season, and now for just one match we do not.
As happy as I am about the fact that we are going to the promotion playoffs, I have to admit that I’m a little disappointed that we did not get a second chance to try to beat Ikurin Vire in a meaningful match. They are the only team in our subdivision that we have not won yet, and even if we do win them on Saturday, it does not really mean a lot.
I’m still hopeful that Vire will give us a good match regardless of the circumstances. They probably feel hard done as they finish third in their subdivision for the second year in a row, and arguably they have been playing in couple of the hardest subdivisions that have been in place. Hopefully this brings out their pride so that they’ll want to make this a good event, a match they can be proud of. Reports from the last match indicate that Vire did not exactly go out in style, so this match gives them a chance for some vindication.
Kick off is set on Saturday at 5 pm sharp in Ikuri. There is no telling how TamU-K will approach this match, but you can bet that the supporters will be there as usual. And whoever will be on the field for TamU-K, I’m sure that they’ll fight for victory as if it mattered.
