On to Promotion Playoffs

As most readers will have heard by now, TamU-K secured a berth in the promotion playoffs over the weekend. This happened as Pelikassit won Ikurin Vire 3-2 by two late goals on Saturday, leaving Vire five points behind TamU-K with just one match left to play. Unfortunately that result also means that Pelikassit are beyond our reach, so direct promotion is not possible anymore. Indeed, congratulations to Pelikassit on their promotion to Vitonen. It was well deserved.

This blog post is coming with a delay because over the weekend I was on a trip in Stockholm to experience the last derby match between Djurgårdens IF and AIK in the legendary Råsunda Stadium, which will be torn down after this season. The gap between one of the biggest derbies in the world and matches in Kutonen is seemingly a big one, but the emotions in the stands are exactly the same. Indeed, as a supporter I cannot help but think that having to play extra matches is a good thing. The end of the season after the match against Pelikassit has been a bit of a let down, as not many matches have been very competitive. Now there is guaranteed excitement, and of course more football is always more football.

That is not to say I wouldn’t change the extra football for a spot in Vitonen for next season. But it is what it is, and what it is is very exciting.

In the mean while we still have a match against Vire on Saturday. This match is now rendered meaningless as far as results go. I really hope that Vire will come to the match with a proper team and a good attitude. That is mainly because non-serious football is awful to watch, but also because our team would benefit from a good match ahead of the crucial first promotion match a week later.

The promotion playoffs will be single matches against teams from other subdivisions in Kutonen. In our first match we will play either against Nokian Pyry or Parkanon Ponteva depending on how their remaining matches go. That match is probably played either on Saturday September 29th or on Sunday September 30th. Should we win that match, the final match for promotion is supposed to be played the next weekend.
