Match Preview: Away at Pelikassit

I may be starting to sound like a broken record, but Saturday’s match against Pelikassit is a very important one. This is a match against another team that has their goal set on promotion. Moreover, the likes of Ikurin Vire and NePa Talent have been winning their matches, so we cannot afford to drop points if we want to be in the driver’s seat in the promotion run. As a supporter it is of course a great feeling that every match is an important one, and I hope that the team continues to draw positive energy from that fact, like they seemed to do in last weekend’s blowout against PiPo. That kind of an easy ride to victory is not likely to be repeated though, as Pelikassit has a solid core group of experienced players. Indeed, TamU-K needs to enter the match humbly and ready to work hard.

Pelikassit is best known for their street hockey team, but this season they decided to start a football team as well. This is their first ever home match, and it promises to be something of an event. They seem to be expecting 150 of their own fans to show up for the match, and have released a menu (untranslatable) that has remained something of a mystery to us outsiders, although inevitably some of the items on the menu must be sausages. Some might even get the impression that the match is not the focus of the event, but we will see on Saturday.

In any case, this will be the first (and perhaps the only) match of the season where we’ll have a significant number of supporters for the other team as well. For Sinikaarti this is almost like a proper away day: despite the short 15 km distance to the match, a charter bus has been organized, and there is also a plan to take over a local bar in Ylöjärvi. After the match the supporters plan to take the bus back to Tampere and gather in Kaijakka (Laukontori 12). TamU-K’s partner bar offers free entrance (no cover) for TamU-K supporters that night.

The match kicks off at the Soppeenharju field in Ylöjärvi at 6 pm on Saturday.
