Back to the Bottom Division After Just Two Years
Those who have been following this blog carefully know that TamU-K will have a second competitive adult team this season. They will enter the bottom division just like our first team did two seasons ago. There will be four subdivisions in Kutonen this year, and the one where our second team will play looks like a tough one.
The full list of teams is at the end of this post, but I will highlight a few of them. The first one is Soho SS, a pub team from a pub that is a favorite for many Tampere United supporters, and has been for a long time. In fact, many Tampere United supporters have played for this team over the years, and a few will do so next year too. It is also a team that has been a candidate for promotion for a few years now after getting relegated from Vitonen in 2010. They are one of the favorites this year too.
HirPy is the only team that is not based in Tampere in our subdivision, and they are also one of the candidates for promotion. In fact, they have finished third in their subdivision of Kutonen three years straight, and the year before they were second. Will 2014 finally be their year?
Ikurin Vire and TaPa are another couple of interesting teams that the second team will meet. With Ikurin Vire of course we have a lot of history, including a season in Kutonen in 2012 and a Finnish Cup match in 2013. TaPa, on the other hand, played in the same subdivision in Vitonen with us last year, but their direction was the opposite from ours.
As far as I understand, Ilves Valkoinen is a team that will enter Kutonen after playing in a youth league last year. Ilves is the biggest club in Tampere, with their first team playing in the second division (Ykkönen) and second team playing in Nelonen with TamU-K’s first team. Add the intertwined history with Tampere United, and meeting any Ilves team is a special event for any Tampere United supporter. If you do not know what I’m referring to here, do not worry, there will be posts in this blog on this topic as the season progresses.
Altogether the subdivision has ten teams playing a double round robin system for a total of 18 matches. The team finishing on top will get promoted, and the second place team will enter promotion playoffs. It looks like a tougher task than the first team had two years ago when it got promoted from Kutonen, but I would expect the second team to at least be in the top half of the table when the season ends. And who knows, maybe if all goes really well there might be a chance for promotion too.
This is the complete list of teams:
